It’s almost Christmas and it’s the time of year to build great holiday traditions with your family. I never got into Elf on a Shelf (luckily for me) but one tradition we love is the 12 days of Christmas. Here’s how it works, you pick 12 books, wrap them, and place them under the tree. Then, your kiddos pick a present at random each night to open and read starting on December 13 to make up 12 special nights of family time. Candlewick Press sent me some great new books that are definitely going to be part of this tradition this month.
Peekaboo Presents is perfect for my little Lea. This lift the flap book lets kids open several boxes under the tree….so fun!
Jingle Bells by James Lord Pierpont follows a family on a sleigh ride with a button that plays the titular song.
Emma Dodd’s books are beyond sweet and gorgeous to look at. Right now, I’m loving When I Grow Up and Happy. Both books offer sweet perspectives about parent child relationships.
To mix it up a bit, The Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs:The Definitive Pop-Up by Robert Sabuda will be perfect. This is BEYOND a pop up book because the dinosaurs that greet you on each page are massive and epic. Zoe is going to lose it over this one!
My absolute favorite Candlewick release has to be Winter’s Child by Angela McAllister. This beautifully illustrated tale poses the question: is there a price for loving winter too much? Each illustration feels like a piece of true art!
These are just some of the 12 books I will have under my tree this weekend….what is your favorite book that should be part of my 12 days? Let me know in the comments section below!
