It’s no secret that I love Disney, but I can recognize not every Disney/Pixar movie is an instant classic (for example, not a huge Ratatouille fan.) However, Inside Out is probably the best Pixar film since Toy Story 3 (which happens to be my fave!) The film packs the emotional punch that takes a good Disney Pixar movie to an amazing one.
Inside Out tells the story of Riley and the emotions that control her behind the scenes: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. Luckily for Riley, Joy is her dominant emotion and life is good, but when Riley has to move away from her hometown, Sadness starts a chain of events in Riley’s brain that threatens to destroy her overall sunny world.
The film’s use of personifying our emotions lets kids understand how its okay to have lots of different feelings, especially sadness. It also poignantly touches upon the theme of growing up and away from the things we once cherished as children (#toosoon #BingBong.)
The DVD has tons of great extras including the tear-jerking short “Lava” which immediately shoots towards the top of the greatest Pixar shorts list. Inside Out is a must own that is why it is the first addition to our HOT HOLIDAY GIFTS list for 2015! Make sure to get a copy this holiday season and tell me in the comments below: which emotion guides your life?
