This Tuesday, one of my favorite recent Disney flicks is hitting DVD and on demand: Tomorrowland. The film is directed, produced and co-written by Brad Bird (“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “The Incredibles”). The story builds off Walt Disney’s own ideas that a place could exist that had ever evolving technologies and limitless possibility for innovation, an idea he articulated through the titular park of the same name. The film focuses on Frank Walker (George Clooney) who grew up a dreamer and inventor. When young Frank meets the charming Athena at the World’s Fair, he is given an incredible chance to be a part of Tomorrowland; a chance he later blows. Later in life, a now disgruntled and disillusioned Frank’s life is intruded on by Casey ( Britt Robertson) who has found a mysterious, and rather magical, tomorrowland pin and needs Frank’s help to get her to that wondrous place. I went into the film expecting only a science fiction movie, but I got a lot more: a movie with heart and a strong message about society that could really resonate with young viewers. If you truly fancy yourself a dreamer, Tomorrowland is the film for you!
