Since our last trip to Great Wolf Lodge, the monsters (particularly Zoe) have been begging us to go back. So, when Hurricane Danny cancelled our Island vacation (boo) I knew it was a perfect opportunity to head back to the lodge. Now, if you are like me, you may hear people say how expensive a trip there can be and how they spent “so much money” on their trip. I’m here to tell you that is a bunch of bologna! A family can definitely have a fantastic trip to Great Wolf and not break the bank and I’m going to show you how.
1.) Check the website for great deals!
Like any other destination, Great Wolf Lodge has peak and off peak times to go. It is going to be way cheaper to go during the week for example than on a weekend during school vacation. Right now, the site offers some GREAT winter deals where a suite for a family of four is under $150. I have stayed at cheap roadside hotels for that price and they certainly didn’t include the awesome amenities like Great Wolf does; which brings me to…
2.) Get there early; stay late!
Did you know you can do a soft check-in at 1:00 p.m, at Great Wolf? They will hold your bags and you can start playing until your room is ready. Further more, you can stay the entire day of checkout as well even after you leave your room. What this breaks down to is that you can have an entire two days at the park with just one night’s stay, so take advantage of this to get the most bang for your buck!
3.) Take advantage of the freebies
Sure there is lots of great pay to play events at Great Wolf like Magi-Quest but there is a tons included in the price of your room. The Monsters loved The Clubhouse Crew which is another interactive game. They also had a blast at a dance party in the lobby and storytime. The best attraction (besides the water park of course) has to be Howlers Peak though, which is an aerial park for all ages. We spent over an hour there and the girls loved it (just don’t forget sneakers because they are required.)
4.) Realize food doesn’t have to be pricy
While Great Wolf offers food for every taste and price, there are totally affordable options too. We ate pizza from Hungry as a Wolf in the comfort of our hotel room and it was delicious! There are also affordable snacks throughout the park and lodge including some vegan goodies which we were psyched for.
Now, with all of this being said, we personally didn’t really follow a budget while we were at Great Wolf; we played mini golf, spent a small fortune in the arcade, ate a LOT of pizza, and bought some souvenirs. I was charging everything to the room using my wristband (a feature I love) and I thought I would be totally shell shocked when we got the invoice. Well, I am pleased to tell you that even spending freely, our invoice was about $140….still a steal! As you can see, you can really afford Great Wolf no matter what your budget so get ready to have a howling good time and book now!
