We took the girls to go Cinderella last night after missing the press screening due to MORE snow. The film was in a word: incredible. I have to say, I was nervous about the film since I didn’t really see the need for a remake, but the film takes the story and elevates it into an emotional and physically beautiful masterpiece.
Cinderella, played by Lily James, is the absolute personification of a Disney Princess. She plays the role delicately and full of emotion. The scenes where she loses her parents are gut wrenching and I may or may not have actually shed a few tears. Cate Blanchett chews scenery as the evil stepmother; she is a terror but plays it with the perfect level of realism.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the film, I think Lea (who is 3) was a little too young to appreciate it since the more whimsical scenes with the Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter) are fewer than the more serious and dialogue driven scenes.
