Well, we survived. That’s right, Zoe has officially completed her first year of school! It really was a whirlwind, but an extremely happy one. I cannot express how much we love Zoe Monster’s school. They encourage her to be creative and explore the world around her instead of the harsh regime that is public kindergarten in Massachusetts now. Zoe couldn’t read a word when she started school….now she seems to be at about a second grade reading level; how the heck did that happen so fast? She used to count her friends on one hand with most of the spots being filled by cousins; now, she has 13 of the most adorable and precocious little friends. Most of all, she is happy…so happy.
The school year culminated with a ceremony called “The ABCs of Kindergarten.” The kids sang and did a little presentation of all the things they had done this year. Afterwards, all the families ate breakfast together in the school commons. It was the perfect end to a perfect year for an absolutely perfect child.
So Zoe Louise, if the internet still exists when you’re older, and if mommy has managed to remember to pay for her web hosting for that long, I want you to know this: Right now, I am the proudest I have ever been to be your mom. You are so smart and beautiful and funny that you make my heart swell every day. I’m sad that time seems to be flying by so fast, but I couldn’t be happier with the little person you are becoming. Welcome to first grade!
